JOB DESCRIPTION
The Communications and Events Manager is crucial in building and maintaining strong relationships with our community and keeping them informed about our work. This position works closely with the Executive Director to create and execute communication strategies that support our mission and engage our community. The ideal candidate is passionate about community-based nonprofit work and has excellent writing skills, social media expertise, event planning experience, and a desire to build relationships with our community.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Writing and Content Creation (30%)
- Create, write, and edit newsletters, press releases, emails, blog posts, and other communications materials for review and approval by the Executive Director
- Create relevant information, photos, or updates to the organization’s social media platforms.
- Provide photos and written copy upon request for funders, news outlets, and partners
- Respond to communication inquiries, and ensure timely follow-up.
- Work closely with the youth programs team to ensure youth-created material follows brand guidelines.
- Collaborates with development staff to design and publish annual reports and appeals.
- Take photos during events and activities, updating and maintaining the photo database.
- Work closely with all staff to ensure the website and other communications organization’s Mission and Vision
Website and Media (20%)
- Work closely with the Executive Director to manage and update the organization's website by ensuring the content is accurate, up-to-date, and visually appealing
- Update the organization's social media accounts, including creating and scheduling content
- Respond to comments and messages from followers and website inquiries, or share with staff as appropriate
- Monitor media coverage and track public relations metrics
- Analyze and make metrics and data-driven decisions to improve engagement and send these decisions to the Executive Director
- Ensure clear and consistent messaging across all platforms
- Stay up-to-date with social media trends and best practices
Merchandise Design & Procurement (5%)
- Design, purchase, and promote merchandise with approval from Executive Director
- Create engaging and relevant marketing materials (e.g., brochures, pamphlets, flyers, etc.) to promote the organization's missions, programs, and opportunities.
Events (35%)
- Plan, coordinate, and execute events, including tours, service immersions, cultural immersions, fundraisers, community outreach events, tabling opportunities, and internal events with appropriate staff
- Promote, plan, lead, and execute volunteer days in collaboration with the Gardener - Groundskeeper
- Create and share invoices for all tours, service immersions, and cultural immersions. Ensuring they are paid in a timely manner
- Oversee all event logistics, including venue selection, catering, technology, and event promotion
- Create event materials, such as invitations, programs, signage, promotional materials, etc.
- Coordinate event registrations and guest lists. Maintaining records of sign-in sheets and other attendee information, ensuring that the data is up-to-date and easily accessible
- Act as the primary point of contact for all event-related inquiries and issues. Setup, registration, run of show, breakdown, and more
- Supervise event staff, volunteers, and any other on-site personnel
- Ensure cost-effectiveness and adherence to financial constraints and event budgets.
- Maintain event calendars, schedules, and timelines
Community Outreach & Administration (10%)
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with community partners, donors, and other stakeholders to promote the organization's mission and initiatives
- Represent NSNP at community events, ensuring a positive and professional presence.
- Communicate with existing partners and stakeholders; conduct outreach to potential partners and stakeholders to expand the organization's network
- Support special projects related to NSNP and stakeholders
- Oversee internal communications processes including voicemails, emails, and team messaging channels
- Support the Executive Director with Communications and Events budget development
- Supervise communications and events interns and volunteers
- Provide general administrative support as needed.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in communications, public relations, or a related field
- 3+ years of professional experience in nonprofit communication, event planning, and/or donor relations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write for diverse audiences
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others
- Proficient in Google Suite and social media platforms
- Familiarity with website management, communications, and design software (Webflow, MailChimp, Canva, Adobe) is a plus
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- A passion for connecting with people
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred

Full-time (35 hours per week), exempt

COMPENSATION AND APPLICATION DETAILS
The salary range for this full-time, exempt position is $48,000-$51,000 per year, commensurate with experience. Some evening and weekend hours will be required as needed. Full-time employees receive up to 15 days of paid time off (PTO), earned on an accrual basis; this amount increases to 20 days after 4 years of service and 25 after 8 years. Additionally, the office is closed two weeks per year and there are 14 paid holidays.
Benefits include dental coverage, partial reimbursement of health insurance costs, monthly cell phone stipend of up to $50, monthly health & wellness reimbursement of up to $50, and eligibility for a Simple IRA account with 2% monthly employer contributions.
